Donald Glover talking about the comments he received during his campaign to be the next Spider-Man (x)

“I was talking about it with Dan Eckman, who directed my Bonfire video. Can you imagine that trailer? That would be dope. Like it makes sense… a poor black kid in Queens. Like it just fits.”

what a disconnect. same thing happened with miles morales, right?

this is another reason why i can’t get into comics — well, okay. it’s the same reason. it doesn’t even have to do with racism or anything. it has to do with status quo. none of these characters are truly allowed to change. whatever changes happen, no matter how big, will get reversed over time. in the last 20 years you can leave out the “over time” part — everything gets paved over with a full reboot once every eight months

i was a huge iron man fan, the only book i really read, until the heroes reborn stuff in the 1990s. (was it the ’90s or am i remembering wrong?) tony stark became a villain. then he became a teenager. then he became tony stark again. who cares? kill him, turn him blind, give him different powers, make him gay. anything challenging to the character will evaporate. he’ll go back to default in a month.

i still like these characters, but who cares? i haven’t read any of these books in a decade. who can be made to care about those kinds of comic books anymore?
